I am trained in Psychology (Dipl. Psych.) and Medicine in Freiburg, Heidelberg and Amherst/ Massachusetts (scholarship) and obtained my doctoral degree (Dr. med.) at the University of Freiburg/Brsg. after working as an assistant at the Institute of Rehabilitation Psychology in 1986. I was a resident and lecturer at the Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy, Technical University and Municipal Hospital Harlaching, Munich from 1986 to 1995, where I obtained my medical specialty (Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy) and psychotherapeutic training (Psychoanalysis, DPV, IPA) and my vena legendi in Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy and Medical Psychology. I was director of the Psychosomatic Clinic in Bad Neustadt/Saale until my appointment as a Professor of Psychotherapy Research at the University Clinic in Gießen in 1997. I was a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor at the Weill Medical College, Neuroimaging lab, Cornell University NY and a visiting professor at the University College of London (from 2001 onwards). Since 2004 I have been Director of the Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy, University Medicine Mainz, including the Postgraduate Training Program for psychodynamic psychotherapy (since 2010). _MG_1886

a great opportunity to cross boundaries from medical school and psychotherapy training to life sciences and humanities and cultural studies on the other.

MY GOAL IS...
to develop new and interdisciplinary approaches to describe and understand the evolvement and function of narration as an important part of psychodynamic psychotherapy.

MY PROJECT...
Understanding narration in the treatment of trauma and online discourse between patient and therapist in guided self-help.
