Research Project: Molecular mechanisms of intoxication by plastic compounds on liver cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (Link).

Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Thomas Efferth (Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz)

BACKGROUND: I studied pharmaceutical chemistry and technology in Milan. After my degree I worked as a researcher in a health company and I delivered different courses, which allowed me to extend my knowledge especially in chemistry.

THE GRK IS... a great opportunity for an exchange of points of view between different researchers. We come from different backgrounds and this is important not only to be able to think differently, but also to have a different perspective on things.

MY GOAL IS... to have the opportunity to compare myself with people from different fields. The contamination of natural sciences and humanities has brought advances in science and this will help me with my research.

MY PROJECT... is to study the mechanisms of intoxication by plastic compounds on human liver. Until now, marine plastic pollution has been considered a remote environmental problem. However, a latent threat to marine life has become an acute threat to human health.
